When Holling used Joel as an example of somebody that might like circumcisions, Joel said that he was an infant, and was held down by Herb.
Later, he, and his wife Nadine, also the mother of Joel, visited Cicely. At the beginning of the episode, Nadine loved to talk. Herb was mostly silent, especially towards Joel. He tried to repair every thing at Joel's cabin and the Doctor's office. Joel had enough when Herb tried to talk Ruth Ann out of seeing Joel any more. Herb and Joel physically fought, but halted their fight after neither of them had an advantage. At the end of the episode, Herb opened up to Joel for the first time. The end of the episode has Herb talking more often and Nadine talking less often.
